Some improvements for this year inlcude a new aluminum dock at the canoe launching site and at Huckleberry Hollow.  Four more new interior tent pads are under construction and this fall, two "yurts" will be located at Shady Ridge.  These have proven to be very popular in other Ontario Parks.

Saturday, July 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the Park's Amphitheatre. Kids and adults alike will enjoy the music and stories of David Archibald. Brought to you by the Friends. Donations welcome.

Get your tickets, at $2.00 each, or 3 for $5.00, on the Friends fund raising raffle, a beautiful red Scott kevlar canoe, complete with ash gunnels and thwarts. You can pick your winning ticket up at the Friends' store, the gatehouse, or at a number of summer events in the district, and of course from any Friends Board member.  The lucky winners of the canoe and the other great camping gifts will be drawn on Thanksgiving weekend, when the Park gates close. We will be selling tickets at the Craft Fair in Gananoque on Sat. Aug. 7, at Lansdowne Harvest Day on Sat. Sept. 11, and at Lyndhurst Turkey Fest on Sat. Sept. 18.

The 2010 Annual General Meeting of the Friends will be held on Saturday, October 9 at 9:30 a.m. in the Park's Visitor Centre. There will be brief reports, followed by a Biosphere Hike.

A very successful Trail Monitor refresher course was held on Saturday, April 17 at the Park centre.  A number of new volunteers has brought this program to a full quota of participants for now.  However, if you are interested in joining the Friends and volunteering, we are looking for some new Board members.  We meet approximately 8 to 10 times a year, and there are volunteer jobs looking for a someone to fill them.  Go to "contact us" if you want information on being part of the Friends "management".

The bridges built on the Blue Mountain south trail have been completed. These are on the Jones Creek headwaters, and on the Mossy Lake outlet. Professionally constructed, they have steel gates at one end to discourage any ATV traffic from accessing the Park.  Material has also been piled to replace the corduroy at a wet spot half way between the bridges.  This is just the beginning of a long range plan to upgrade the Blue Mountain road access to this unique and well traveled hiking trail.  It was done with funds from the National Trail Coalition matched by the Friends of Charleston Lake Park.  Note that ATVs are not, by law permitted to operate in the Park.  If you should see any while you are visiting, suggest they leave the Park area.

On Thursday, August 12 at 8:30 pm, the Friends present Stargazer with Terence Dickinson.  This respected astronomer’s show is something you won’t want to miss.  Settler’s Weekend, July 30 -Aug 1, highlights the settlement of the area.
